Hands-on technical instruction
Instructor-led Learning Labs are one of the most popular events at Synergy each year, providing extended, in-depth technical instruction on Citrix technologies in a small group setting under the close supervision of an expert. Like the best Citrix education classes, labs offer the advantages of in-person instruction as well as collaboration with peers. At Synergy 2016, a new preconference schedule enabled attendees to concentrate on intensive lab training before turning their focus to three full days of Synergy programs.
The Instructor-led Learning Labs workshop package included up to three labs and the Learning Lab Happy Hour, which offered the chance to get additional guidance and whiteboard solutions in a casual setting. Labs were designed for anyone responsible for implementation, deployment and management of Citrix solutions. Topics included:
- Using the Citrix Browser Apps Service for secure web application delivery
- Introduction to software-defined WAN implementation and deployment
- Leveraging the power of ShareFile as the premier storage platform
- Unified endpoint management for BYOD
All labs were BYO, so attendees were asked to bring their own Windows or Mac laptop and power cord to participate in the hands-on training. Standby seating was available, but only in limited numbers, so be sure to sign up early for this special workshop when registration opens for Citrix Synergy 2017.
Self-paced Learning Labs provide the ultimate in convenience. No reservations are necessary; attendees just plug in, select a lab topic and begin training. The on-demand format means guests can start early or work late to maximize their time at Synergy and gain valuable skills and knowledge.

A high-level overview of additional Linux versions (Red Hat, SUSE Enterprise Linux) will also be covered. Note: This is the same as SYN601.
The latest release of Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop re-establishes Citrix dominance and leadership in app delivery and provides a next-generation management experience. In this session, we will review the upcoming improvements to application delivery components, including the introduction of application limits and the integrated ability to monitor app limits from Director. We will see how AppDNA can be used to streamline application management. Note: This is the same as SYN602.
StoreFront enables you to create universal enterprise app stores to facilitate users’ mobile workstyles while giving centralized control to the administrator. It improves enterprise security and simplifies deployments, making it easier to manage multisite Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop environments. In this session, you will learn about two advanced configuration methods for StoreFront and how to properly implement multidomain authentication. You will gain the hands-on experience needed to successfully implement clustering of StoreFront servers for high availability. In addition, we will also discuss best practices for StoreFront 3.0 customization along with HTML5 configuration and troubleshooting. Note: This is the same as SYN603.
Managing security vulnerabilities in a corporate network is becoming an increasingly challenging endeavor. Limiting your public Internet exposure to a single IP address/FQDN can greatly reduce this threat to your infrastructure. NetScaler with Unified Gateway was designed with these security concerns in mind. In this session, you will get hands-on experience in configuring NetScaler with Unified Gateway for use with Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop and StoreFront, as well as Exchange (OWA), SharePoint and other web applications. You will be using several different authentication methods, including HTTP Basic, Active Directory (LDAP), RADIUS, and SAML. You will also get experience in configuring the new NetScaler authentication framework, nFactor, which allows more flexible and customizable methods of authentication for a AAA virtual server. Note: This is the same as SYN604.
NetScaler can secure web applications, prevent inadvertent or intentional disclosure of confidential information and maintain compliance with information security regulations. In this session, learn how to use different protection mechanism like DDoS, AppFW and RateLimiting. Note: This is the same as SYN605.
XenServer is faster, more scalable, and more relevant than ever for organizations deploying XenApp and XenDesktop infrastructures. Deploying XenServer at scale goes beyond the simple process of installation, and requires a deeper understanding of the expectations XenServer has on infrastructure. In this session, you will learn some of the important considerations you need to account for when designing and implementing your virtual application and desktop infrastructure. We will discuss topics related to networking, storage, management and virtualized graphics requirements. This is the same as SYN606.
NetScaler Insight Center provides the ability to monitor, diagnose and subsequently improve the performance of business-critical applications, which is essential to ensuring a positive user experience and maintaining the highest levels of employee productivity and customer satisfaction. In this session, you will get hands-on experience with implementing and troubleshooting a NetScaler Insight Center deployment and learn the Citrix Technical Support troubleshooting methodology and best practices. This is the same as SYN607.
Citrix Provisioning Services (PVS) allows single-image management for virtual desktops and servers. In this session, you will learn about vDisk versioning, vDisk replication status and how the replication status may impact your environment. In addition, we will also discuss best practices for vDisk maintenance along with how to troubleshoot when the replication status is in a failed state. This is the same as SYN611.
XenMobile offers streamlined integration with collaboration applications such as Microsoft Lync. It provides one-click access to leading communication and collaboration messaging directly from WorxMail calendar and contacts. In this session, we will look at the options available for providing secure mobile access to Microsoft Lync. Note: This is the same as SYN612.
