Green Report Card
From the start, Synergy San Francisco has been thoughtfully planned to minimize environmental impact. One of the most important aspects was the choice of Moscone West as the venue for the conference. Moscone leads the hospitality industry in green practices, and has achieved many milestones through the use of renewable energy sources and energy-efficient lighting, diversion of waste from landfills and the selection of local, organic products.
To enhance the environmental efforts of the Moscone West management, Synergy has implemented a wide range of additional programs.
Transportation
Synergy’s location in downtown San Francisco makes it easy and convenient for attendees to walk to hotels, restaurants, shops and attractions. We encourage attendees to use public transportation to and from the airport, and we are using hybrid taxicabs to transport executives. Another transportation initiative is the carbon offset program: attendees can purchase carbon offsets to mitigate the effect of their air travel on the environment.
Conference Setup
Synergy is using reusable or recyclable materials and products throughout the conference. Examples include repurposing carpet, utilizing organic fabrics and furniture with recycled components.
Signage
Synergy is using recyclable signs made without the use of laminates or glues, and is having signage produced locally to avoid fuel usage from transport. The conference guide is printed on recycled paper using soy ink. Wherever possible, electronic versions of documents and handouts are being used, and any unwanted paper materials will be donated to local schools.
Food and Beverage
Moscone composts all food waste and uses compostable utensils; untouched food is donated to Food Runners and Glide Memorial Church. To avoid the landfill issues of water bottles, Synergy is providing each attendee with a reusable, BPA-free bottle.
Green Travel Certificate
Environmental stewardship is important to everyone. Synergy is committed to reducing the world’s carbon output—including the carbon emissions generated by traveling to San Francisco. Earn 50 e-Auction points for contributing!
A Green Travel Certificate represents the difference in cost between a conventional electricity source such as coal (among the largest industrial sources of carbon dioxide) and a renewable energy source such as wind or solar. By purchasing a certificate, you are paying to upgrade energy sources to climate-friendly renewable energy.
The Green Travel packages available include:
OurEnergy Domestic Air Package – Wind Energy $33
This certificate represents the purchase of 1,500 kilowatt hours of U.S. wind energy, equal to your roundtrip air flight of 6,000 miles. An equal amount of fossil fuel-generated power would be responsible for 2,088 pounds of carbon dioxide pollution.
OurEnergy Domestic Travel Package – Wind Energy $35
This certificate represents the purchase of 1,575 kilowatt hours of U.S. wind energy, equal to your roundtrip air flight of 6,000 miles and a hotel stay of three nights. An equal amount of fossil fuel-generated power would be responsible for 2,192 pounds of carbon dioxide pollution.
OurEnergy International Travel Package – Wind Energy $92
This certificate represents the purchase of 5,000 kilowatt hours of U.S. wind energy, equal to your roundtrip air flight of 20,000 miles and a hotel stay of four nights. An equal amount of fossil fuel-generated power would be responsible for 6,960 pounds of carbon dioxide pollution.
To participate, please visit OurEnergy. You will be redirected to the OurEnergy web site where you may make your purchase via credit card. All proceeds go directly to purchasing wind energy from Evolution Markets (Gold Standard & UNFCCC Certified).
